Phos-05 is a thiol scavenger with a high affinity for platinum group metals.
It is the recommendation for Rh but also has a high affinity for Pd.
3kg sample of catalyst waste stream containing 700 ppm Rh. Screening at 100 degrees C found Phos-04 and Phos-05 recovered 96% Rh, Phos-04 loaded 26 g/kg and Phos-05 loaded 28 g/kg. Optimisation at 90 degrees C achieved >98% recovery, down to 11 ppm and up to 33 g/kg loaded.
Synthesis of Valsartan precusor using Suzuki coupling produced a waste stream containing 2100 ppm Pd from the Pd(PPh3)4 catalyst. After scavenging with Phos-05 the content was reduced to 1.6 ppm Pd.
